The Department of Psychology at Bartın University began admitting students in the 2018–2019 academic year as part of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. The Department of Psychology offers a four-year (eight-semester) undergraduate programme. The language of instruction for the programme is Turkish. Students take compulsory courses in the first two years; in the third and fourth years, they take compulsory courses alongside departmental elective courses. The department currently has 7 Associate Professors and 3 Research Assistants.
The science of psychology involves the study of human and animal behaviour and the underlying mental processes through the use of observation and experimental methods within a scientific framework. The science of psychology is divided into various sub-fields for this examination. Within this framework, the Department of Psychology at Bartın University comprises four main fields of study: Experimental Psychology, Social Psychology, Developmental Psychology and Applied Psychology.
From the 2019–2020 academic year onwards, Dual Degree and Minor Programmes have been launched in our department. These programmes are run in collaboration with the Departments of Philosophy and Sociology. Furthermore, the Erasmus, Mevlana and Farabi Exchange Programmes continue under the umbrella of Bartın University.
In addition to lectures, the Department organises conferences on various topics related to psychology, attended by both academic staff and students. Graduates who successfully complete the programme are awarded a ‘Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology’.
