What is the Erasmus Programme?
The Erasmus Programme is a European Union initiative designed to encourage multifaceted cooperation between higher education institutions across Europe. It provides grant-based, non-repayable financial support to enable higher education institutions to develop and implement joint projects, as well as to facilitate short-term student and academic staff exchanges. It takes its name from the Dutch scholar Erasmus (1469–1536), one of the key figures of Renaissance Humanism, who spent time in various European countries both as a student and as an academic. Students participating in the Erasmus Programme are offered the opportunity to study in another European country for a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 12 months.
